Nov. 3, 2017 - The wood pellet research laboratory (BBRG) at the University of British Columbia is getting a boost of $250,000 from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The funding is part of a larger grant of $1.8 million to a larger group of UBC researchers to further support the development of the UBC’s biorefining research and innovation capacity. Founded in 1997, the CFI funds state-of-the-art research infrastructure (facilities and equipment) that Canadian researchers will use to conduct world-class research.
Nov. 1, 2017 - Global wood pellet markets have had significant growth in the past decade. Data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations shows growth rates over the most recent five years of data of about 9.3 per cent annually: from about 19.5 million metric tons in 2012 to about 28.6 million metric tons in 2016. Europe remains the world’s largest producer of wood pellets.

Oct. 17, 2017 - In the wake of the release of AEBIOM’s Statistical Report 2017, the European Pellet Council (EPC, an AEBIOM network) in charge of ENplus management, announced a record year for the wood pellet quality scheme. With over 8.1 million tonnes certified worldwide in 2016 and 9.2 million tonnes anticipated by the end of 2017, ENplus confirms its leading role in the global harmonisation of high quality wood pellets.
Oct. 16, 2017 - Rentech, Inc. has notified Nasdaq of its intention to voluntarily withdraw the company’s common shares from listing on The Nasdaq Capital Market effectively immediately prior to market opening on Oct. 16. The company intends to file a Form 25, Notification of Removal from Listing and/or Registration under Section 12(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended, with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Oct. 16, notifying the SEC of its transfer from listing on The Nasdaq Capital Market to the OTCQB Market. Rentech’s common shares will be listed on the OTCQB Market effective as of the market open on Oct. 16.

Sept. 29, 2017 - Since 2010, Canadian wood pellet exports have increased by 240 per cent, from one million tonnes in 2010 to 2.4 million tonnes in 2016. Last year’s exports totalled $408 million. Pellet producers have invested in new plant capacity, employed more people and paid more taxes while continuing to grow an industry using a raw material that was formerly a waste product of the sawmill industry.
Sept. 28, 2017 - Southeast Alaska is a remote island chain, located about 1,100 kilometres north of Seattle, Wash. Most of the region’s goods are imported by barge, creating logistical and economic challenges not faced by many other parts of the U.S. This also applies for many types of wood products. Although the region is heavily forested (including the 17 million acre Tongass National Forest), there are no commercial wood pellet mills capable of supplying the region’s needs.

Sept. 8, 2017 - The Pellet Fuels Institute today announced the qualification of PA Pellets of Ulysses, Pennsylvania, to the PFI Standards Program as the 38th facility qualified for the program. The PFI Standards Program is a third-party accreditation program providing specifications for residential and commercial-grade pellet fuel. PA Pellets’ parent company, Biomaxx, Inc. previously qualified its Arcade, New York facility Dry Creek Products into the program.
