Quebec biorefinery project receives funding

Sept. 16, 2016 - The Quebec government is contributing a grant of up to $1.5 million to Bioénergie La Tuque (BELT) to support techno-economic feasibility studies. The studies are a preliminary step prior to the development of a forest-based biorefinery planned for 2023.
“The Quebec government’s announcement today allows us to mobilize the best available experts worldwide to work on this important project that will contribute to the economic development of the region,” Patrice Mangin, director general of the BELT project, said Wednesday.
Making the funding announcement, Quebec’s minister of energy and natural esources, Pierre Arcand, said he was particularly impressed with the work accomplished to date by Bioénergie La Tuque.
Patrice Bergeron, president BELT, commented: “This commitment by the Government of Quebec in this project confirms its intention to support and give birth to a real bioenergy sector. We hope to attract one or more major investors, who are essential to the realization of this project, which represents an investment of about one billion dollars.”
Bioénergie La Tuque has plans to build a biodiesel facility using wood residue as a feedstock.
