Regina, federal government invest in new biofuel plant to be built near city

A $1-million investment by the City of Regina and another matched by the federal government will allow for the construction of a new biofuel processing plant near the city.

The True North Renewable Fuels Ltd. plant will turn locally grown canola into biodiesel to help fuel the aviation and rail industries. In addition to construction jobs being created, the finished plant could employ between 150 and 350 people.

“The renewable fuel that they would be producing would be less than 20 percent of what fossil fuel produces,” Mayor Sandra Masters told 620 CKRM Radio.
