Rising energy prices and renewable energy

May 9, 2012 – Rising electricity prices are always a spot of contention
for consumers, but new data seems to point the blame at nuclear energy,
instead of the long-victimized renewable energy sources.

In an article for the Toronto Star, Pembina Institute researcher Tim Weis dexcribed how electricity prices will continue to rise across the country regardless of the source of the power. And while feed-in tariffs on renewable sources can help, it is only a slim market share compared to coal and nuclear.

"New data from the Ontario Energy Board’s market surveillance report
shows that the power providers who have received the largest portion of [energy bill] adjustments since 2006 aren’t wind and solar energy — they only
account for 6 per cent. Instead, it’s nuclear, at 45 per cent."

The article continues to predict what could happen if FIT prices drop, as well as just how much the Ontario nuclear program needs an overhaul.
