Burning wood can provide lower carbon emissions: DECC

July 24, 2014, London, U.K. – A report released by the
Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in the U.K. has found that
burning wood for electricity can provide lower carbon emissions than other
types of fuel, but only under tightly controlled conditions.

According to an article published by The Guardian, the new
report outlines the conditions during which biomass use is more beneficial as a
fuel alternative. The report looks at the type of forest that biomass resources
come from, as well as how quickly the forest is replanted.

The DECC report, prepared by its outgoing chief scientific
adviser, David Mackay, is not expected to suggest scaling back the use of
biomass.
