Tour OPG biomass power plants with WPAC

Aug. 8, 2017 - The Wood Pellet Association of Canada together with IEA Bioenergy Task 32, is offering a three-day bioenergy tour of Thunder Bay and Atikokan, Ont.


The tour will take place immediately following the 2017 WPAC AGM and Conference, which is happening September 18-20 in Ottawa.

The tour will take participants to four biomass facilities, including Resolute Forest Products’ pellet plant in Thunder Bay, Confederation College’s Bioenergy Facility, and Ontario Power Generation’s Atikokan and Thunder Bay generating stations.

This tour is limited to 15 participants on a first-come-first-serve basis. Registration deadline is Aug. 16, 2017.

3:00 p.m. – Depart Ottawa Marriott Hotel by bus to Ottawa Airport
5:00 p.m. – Porter Airlines flight to Thunder Bay via Toronto
8:43 p.m. – Arrive in Thunder Bay, overnight at Hampton by Hilton Hotel

September 21, 2017
Morning – Tour Resolute Forest Products Thunder Bay Pellet Plant
Morning – Tour Confederation College Bioenergy Facility
Noon – Lunch at Fort William Historical Park
Afternoon – Bus to Atikokan
Afternoon/Evening – Tour of OPG’s Atikokan Generating Station, operating on 100 per cent white wood pellets. Overnight at White Otter Inn

Morning – Bus to Thunder Bay
Morning – Tour of OPG’s Thunder Bay Generating Station, operating on advanced wood pellets
2:25 p.m. – Air Canada flight to Toronto, arrive at 4:20 p.m. End of tour.
