Training to begin for forestry jobs

June 13, 2011 – Training will begin this year to prepare 240 northern Ontarians for jobs in the forestry sector.

June 13, 2011 – Training will begin this
year to prepare 240 northern Ontarians for jobs in the forestry sector. With
$3.6 million in support from the Northern Training Partnership Fund, the Two
Feathers Forest Products project will support northern Ontario employers in the
forestry sector with a trained labour force to meet workplace needs. The
project will provide apprenticeship training and on-the-job technical training
to prepare participants for jobs with Two Feathers Forest Products or in the
forestry sector as process operators. The project's partners are Wabigoon Lake
Ojibway Nation, Wood Tech Group Finland Oy Ltd., Seven Generations Institute,
and Confederation College.

Announced in the 2010 Ontario budget, the
Northern Training Partnership Fund is a three-year, $45-million initiative to
support job skills development for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal northern Ontarians.
