
UK port expanding incoming pellet business

June 25, London, UK - According to a report on Argus, the UK's Port of Tyne is continuing to receive regular wood pellet cargoes, with two shipments having discharged so far in June, and another due to begin discharging today
Micronesian Panamax vessel Grebe Bulker arrived in early June, delayed from its original expected discharge date of 29 May, while Cypriot bulk carrier Federal Ems, which was expected on 12 June, departed Tyne on 16 June after delivering a wood pellet shipment.
Panama-built ship Union Dede docked at the port this morning, arriving from Vancouver.
Maltese vessel Densa Leopard delivered pellets at the end of April.
The port posted record financial results for 2011 in May, with turnover increasing by almost a third to £60mn ($93.3mn) and profit more than doubling to £9mn. Bulk cargo volumes, including wood pellets, more than doubled to 3.5mn t compared with 2010.
The company acquired 10 acres of land at the end of May to support the port's future growth. The port is planning to expand its wood pellet handling facilities, it said.
