May 24, 2012, London, UK – The UK's final renewable obligation certificate (Roc) banding will be announced before parliament breaks for summer recess on 17 July, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) told Argus. But no exact date has been confirmed date as yet

Many proposed UK biomass projects are awaiting the results before concluding financing with banks that are reluctant to provide funds until banding is confirmed.

And the announcement will influence the decisions of several UK coal plants considering whether to convert fully to biomass, increase co-firing levels or potentially close units.

Under the current proposals, coal to biomass conversions will receive 1 Roc/MWh, while co-firing will continue to receive 0.5 Rocs/MWh for up to 15pc co-firing, and 1 Roc/MWh for anyone who reaches 15pc or more.
