Vancouver airport speeds up its path to a green future with 2030 net zero goal
March 15, 2021 By BIV
The Vancouver Airport Authority has launched a year-long strategic plan for 2021 that not only will enable the Vancouver International Airport to thrive beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, but speed up its net zero target toward a greener future.
The goal is for the airport to reach net zero emissions by 2030. It is the first airport in Canada to set such a target. The airport’s target had previously been 2050, but is being sped up by 20 years.
Some of the strides already being made include a reduction in its waste production, lowering of its water consumption and the implementation of low-carbon ground support equipment and gate infrastructure that allows aircraft to plug into electricity.
