Japan Biomass Outlook: Overview and Analysis in the Context of a Changing Power Market Confirmation

Speaker: Annette Bossler, FutureMetrics

Japan is the world’s fastest growing market for wood pellets, chips and palm kernel shells. The earthquake in 2011 destroyed the Fukushima nuclear power plant and the confidence of Japanese citizens in that form of electricity. Since then, Japan has implemented an attractive feed-in-tariff program and other favourable policies that have resulted in a seismic increase in biomass co-firing and construction of new dedicated biomass power plants.Canadian Biomass and the Wood Pellet Association of Canada (WPAC) teamed up with FutureMetrics to provide an analysis of the Japanese biomass power market during this pre-recorded webinar.

Topics include:
Japanese electricity market regulatory environment and players
Renewable energy off-take process for various generation types
Biomass fuel supply
Biomass imports
Biomass demand outlook
Generation economics
