Waste liquefaction company wants Prince Albert, Sask.’s garbage to convert to biofuel

VDQ-NRG, a Prairies-based waste liquefaction company, hopes the City of Prince Albert, Sask. will help it turn city garbage into biofuel.

The company, which has offices in Calgary and Saskatoon, converts garbage to energy using two technologies. Hydrothermal liquefaction converts plant, food and paper waste into a crude oil that can be converted to carbon black. Additionally, the company wants to turn plastics into fuel by building an electro-depolarization plant.

VDQ-NRG isn’t asking the city to help fund the plant, but wishes to acquire the revenue from tipping fees collected from city residents.
