Webinar: Japan’s biomass outlook in a changing power market

May 21, 2020
By Canadian Biomass staff

Japan is the world’s fastest growing market for wood pellets, chips and palm kernel shells. The earthquake in 2011 destroyed the Fukushima nuclear power plant and the confidence of Japanese citizens in that form of electricity. Since then, Japan has implemented an attractive feed-in-tariff program and other favourable policies that have resulted in a seismic increase in biomass co-firing and construction of new dedicated biomass power plants.

Canadian Biomass and the Wood Pellet Association of Canada (WPAC) have teamed up with FutureMetrics to provide an analysis of the Japanese biomass power market during a FREE one-hour webinar called, “Japan biomass outlook: Overview and analysis in the context of a changing power market,” happening June 2 at 2:00 p.m. EST, sponsored by Player Design Inc..

FutureMetrics recently released one of the most comprehensive reports ever produced on the Japanese biomass power market. Annette Bossler, MA, senior market intelligence expert and lead author, will be presenting the webinar. Topics will include:

  • Japanese electricity market regulatory environment and players
  • Renewable energy off-take process for various generation types
  • Biomass fuel supply
  • Biomass imports
  • Biomass demand outlook
  • Generation economics

Bossler has over 25 years of experience in international business development for private and public entities with a significant focus on the Japanese energy market since 2010.
