Whitecourt biomass power facility undergoes $14.3M refurbishment

Sept. 5, 2017 - Whitecourt Power is investing $14.3 million into the refurbishment of its biomass power facility that has been turning wood waste into electricity for more than 20 years in Whitecourt, Alta.

The refurbishment will include a repair of the facility’s boiler and the overhaul of its steam turbine and generator, according to the Whitecourt Star. The project will take about two months to complete and involve a facility shutdown.

The Whitecourt Power facility received funding from the Government of Alberta’s Bioenergy Producer Program for the renovations.
