Whole tree chipper delivers consistent chip size

Feb. 12, 2018 - The Barko CH6025 whole tree chipper offers upgraded components and an enhanced eight-knife design that contribute to optimal operating efficiency. Featuring Barko’s patented ConeHead drum technology, the chipper provides an innovative slicing action that uses less energy and produces consistent, superior quality chips.

The unique ConeHead drum offers a wider, 35-inch throat opening that helps make faster work of big jobs. The drum’s knife design includes eight steel in-pocket knives measuring 7.75 by 5 inches with 0.625-inch thickness and two usable edges per knife. Rather than the chopping action of a traditional drum or disc, the ConeHead drum utilizes a more efficient slicing motion that delivers more chip loads per gallon of fuel consumed. Furthermore, this slicing action produces higher quality wood chips at sizes that are impeccably consistent.

The CH6025 is powered by a 520-horsepower turbo diesel engine with a 150-gallon fuel tank, and offers a 22-inch-diameter whole tree capacity. The unit’s infeed table with replaceable floor measures 10 feet long by 35 inches wide. One horizontal and two vertical hydraulically-powered feed rollers consume mounds of limbs and tops quickly, and large blades on the drum ends throw chips forcefully into collection trucks to pack in more material, thereby increasing efficiency and productivity.

Improvements from the previous model include dual air-brake axles rated to 22,500 pounds, increased storage space for knives and tools in front of the axles, and a standard twin disc, manual-engage dry disc clutch. Other standard features include a reversing engine fan, 385/65R22.5 tires on aluminum wheels, dual front hydraulic stabilizer jacks, electrohydraulics controlled by wireless remote, and 12-volt lighting with grill protection.

Service is simplified by remote grease zerks and bolt-on, replaceable wear surfaces. Notable options on the chipper include a Proheat X45 system for the engine and hydraulics, PT Tech wet disc hydraulic engage clutch, larger 425/65R22.5 tires, dual rear hydraulic stabilizer jacks, and a 13-horsepower air compressor.
