November 6, 2012, Prince George, BC – The Wood Pellet Association of Canada has announced a preliminary agenda for its Conference and AGM, to be held in Quebec City November 27 and 28.

On November 27, attendees will be give a tour of the La Cité Verte district heating system. La Cité Verte is the first large-scale, multi-residential project in Quebec comprised of green, intelligent buildings. There are more than 800 housing units – including condos, townhouses, apartments and affordable housing – intermingled with community features such as green spaces, stores and services to encourage pedestrian movement and social interaction.
La Cité Verte currently employs the most advanced biomass district heating system in North America for its space heating and domestic hot water (DHW) needs. It offers proof that biomass heating is not only a feasible solution for rural areas, but it can also be implemented effectively within an urban setting. (Check out the Sept/Oct issue of Canadian Biomass for details.)

On Day 2, there will be three sessions with numerous presentations. Session 1 will centre on the Canadian and Iinternational wood pellet situation and include topics such as “The Impact of Foreign Policies on the Trade of Forest Products,” “Trends and Developments in the International Pellet Market,” and “Growth in U.S. Pellet Exports and the Benefits of Canada-U.S. Cooperation.”

Session 2 will discuss Canadian research and safety initiatives with presentations from the BC Forest Safety Council and WPAC’s Steffan Melin.

With nearly all of Canada’s pellet producers in attendance, WPAC will also be giving suppliers an opportunity to connect with them at the Supplier Showcase. Six companies will be giving presentations and there are only four spots left. To reserve a spot, contact Gordon Murray .
