B.C. lumber company to pause operations Sept. 30 on Day of Truth and Reconciliation

Teal Jones, the largest privately owned lumber company on British Columbia’s west coast, will cease operations for the day on Sept. 30 to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The company has developed a productive rapport with 106 First Nations in the province, building long-term relationships. Jack Gardner, great-grandson of company founder Jack Jones, says the First Nations have been instrumental in Teal Jones’ success.

Gardner says it’s important to recognize that businesses operating on traditional First Nations lands need to continue to pursue reconciliation.
