Biomass power projects coming online in B.C.

May 29, 2014, Vancouver, B.C. – British Columbia is touting
the success of its bioenergy strategy as several plants producing electricity
are set to come online this year.

According to an article in the Vancouver Sun, three projects
are expected to produce electricity by the end of 2014, including Conifex’s
Mackenzie stand-alone plant, as well as West Fraser’s biomass power plants in
Fraser Lake and Chetwynd.

The article also notes two other biomass power which are in
the works in Fort St. James and Merritt. Those two projects, being constructed
and operated by French company Dalkia, should be completed in 2016.

The government launched its bioenergy strategy in 2008. BC
Hydro followed up in 2008 and 2010 with calls for proposals for biomass energy
projects for communities throughout the province.
