Construction on Lake Babine Nation’s biomass plant begins

In the summer of 2019, Lake Babine Nation (LBN) announced it had received $779,000 in funding from Natural Resources Canada for a new biomass plant.

Construction has now begun on LBN’s plant, which will heat several buildings, including the school, clinic, and water treatment plant, all of which will be operated by the community of Fort Babine, Houston Today reports.

Project manager Bernard Patrick told Houston Today he hopes the project will be completed by October. Once it is up and running, consumption data will be reviewed to determine if the biomass facility can heat other buildings, including houses.
