July 24, 2014, Grand Falls, N.B. – The Grand Falls General
Hospital has become one of the first public buildings in New Brunswick to
utilize a pellet-fired heating system.

According to a report from Atlantic Farm Focus, the new
850kW system is expected to reduce fuel oil consumption at the hospital by
300,000 litres per year, providing a project savings of $4 million over a
20-year period.

The system was installed by Biomass Solutions Biomasse, who
constructed the unit and will operate the system for the next 10 years according
to the Renewable Energy Agreement with the hospital.

Over the next several months, a handful of other public
buildings in New Brunswick will also have pellet boilers installed, including
two schools and a nursing home.
