IATA: Focus on sustainable aviation fuel – not taxation – in Fit for 55 proposal

Relying on taxation as a means of reducing aviation emissions in the European Union’s “Fit for 55” proposal is counter-productive toward achieving sustainable aviation, suggests the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The association believes the European Union needs to support sustainable aviation fuels and modernize air traffic management.
Taxation to motivate change is punitive, the IATA believes, suggesting the EU focuses on SAF production incentives.
