Enerkem receives two awards

Oct. 23, 2009, Montreal – Dr. Esteban Chornet, Enerkem's co-founder and chief technology
officer, has received a Synergy Award for Innovation from the Natural Sciences
and Engineering Research Council of Canada. The award was presented on
October 19 in Ottawa, Ontario. The Synergy Awards for Innovation honour
outstanding university–industry research and development (R&D) partnerships
in natural sciences and engineering that stand as models of effective
partnerships. Enerkem is part of this partnership through the R&D efforts
led by Chornet during his tenure as professor at the University of Sherbrooke.
Chornet received the award and a $200,000 research grant on behalf of the
University of Sherbrooke, Enerkem, Fractal Systems, and CRB Innovations.
Chornet's ability to integrate science, engineering, and business, as well as
his understanding of the energy and environment relationship, have been
essential in making the partnership a success.

"I am extremely honoured to receive this partnership award for innovation,"
says Dr. Esteban Chornet. "It is extremely rewarding to witness our team's R&D
efforts being brought to fruition, from lab to commercial scale. By working in
synergy, companies and universities can develop efficient partnerships, which
become the foundation of achievement and success."

Enerkem was also named an emerging cleantech leader in Canada as one of Corporate
Knights 2009’s Next 10 Emerging Cleantech Leaders. Vincent Chornet, CEO and president
of Enerkem, joined the other cleantech companies at a Toronto Stock Exchange
opening for the announcement of the winners. The Cleantech Next 10 are chosen based
on innovation of approach, clear business objectives, business problem solving,
and potential for breakthrough. The selection was made by an advisory panel of
Canada's principal authorities on cleantech.
