July 12, 2017 - The Merritt Green Energy project in B.C., a 40-megawatt biomass-fuelled power plant, has finished site construction and is in the commissioning stage.

John Turner, vice-president of operations at Veolia North America, told the Merritt Herald the plant is undergoing tests and is on track to launch into full operation this fall.

The plant is one of two being built by Veolia and Fengate Capital that will be fuelled by wood residuals and sawdust. The other plant is under construction near Fort St. James, B.C.

Last December Merritt Green Energy confirmed with Canadian Biomass that they are confident the fuel required to run the Merritt plant will be available through an existing agreement with Tolko, despite Tolko shuttering its Merritt sawmill on Dec. 16.
