November 20, 2012, Houston, TX — Renewable Energy Group (REG) has purchased a 15mn USG/yr (978 b/d) biodiesel production plant outside of Atlanta, Georgia.

The acquisition boosts REG's overall nameplate capacity to more than 240mn USG/year, or 15,655 b/d, and is the second plant the biodiesel producing giant has purchased in just over three weeks.

REG purchased the previously named BullDog biodiesel facility for $2.6mn, the company said. After REG tolled the biorefinery from April 2011 through April 2012, the plant had to be idled due to poor market conditions and necessary upgrades to the facility.

The newly-named REG Atlanta facility has run intermittently since January 2008.

REG has not announced a timeline for the restart of the facility.
REG Atlanta is the company's tenth biodiesel-related firm or facility acquisition since 2008. The company announced the acquisition of a 15mn USG/yr plant in northeast Texas on 26 October. That plant is set to go on-line in the first quarter of next year.
