April 4, 2014, Regina, Sask. – The City of Regina is
investigating the possibility of turning landfill gas into electricity to sell
to SaskPower.
According to a report from the CBC, the landfill gas system
would require a $5 million investment, but could generate up to $8 million in
revenue across a 20-year span according to a staff report.
The municipality had previously considered syphoning landfill
gas from its waste management facility to be burned for electricity generation.
However, an agreement with Solar Hydrogen failed and the plan was scrapped.
