Switzerland votes to keep nuclear energy longer

Nov. 28, 2016 - A referendum in Switzerland has shut down a plan to accelerate the closure of the country's five nuclear plants and switch to other energy sources such as wind, solar and biomass energy.

The plan would have seen the last plant shut down in 2029. While the referendum was tight, 54.2 per cent voted against the move.
