Brampton, Ont. looking at proposed $124-million anaerobic digestion facility

A $124-million anaerobic digestion facility project has been proposed for Brampton, Ont., which will help divert waste and produce both renewable natural gas and fertilizer.

The digestion process produces biogas from methane, carbon dioxide and other gases that can be used as a fuel. European countries such as Germany, Denmark and the U.K. have adopted the process as a source of renewable energy.

A Mississauga councillor said Europe is about 40 years ahead of the curve, adding it’s “the way to go.”
