April 16, 2013, New York, NY — U.S. industrial wood pellet manufacturer Enviva will commission a 500,000 t/yr mill in Northampton, North Carolina, by the end of this month, bringing the company's total nameplate capacity to over 1mn t/yr.

The mill was first announced in the summer of 2011 and compliments Enviva's neighbouring, 350,000 t/yr plant at Ahoskie, North Carolina, and the 90,000 t/yr Amory and 136,000 t/yr Wiggins plants, both in Mississippi on the US Gulf coast.

Enviva is building another plant on the US east coast, in Southampton County, Virginia, which has a targeted capacity of 500,000 t/yr. This plant is under construction and is tentatively scheduled to come on line later this year.

The Northampton and Southampton County plants will be Enviva's largest. Production from the two plants, and from Ahoskie, will be shipped from Enviva's 3mn t/yr wood pellet terminal at Chesapeake, Virginia. Enviva secured a $120mn credit facility in November to help finance the new plants. Production from the Amory and Wiggins plants is shipped from the port of Mobile, Alabama.
