
Federal government funds biofuel project aimed toward aviation industry

A $2.89-million grant from the federal government has been earmarked for a project that converts renewable materials into fuel that can be used by jet engines.
Leading the project group is David Bressler, a professor of bioresource technology and fermentation at the University of Alberta, who says biofuel meets increasing emission standards in the aviation industry.
Biodiesel, a sustainable alternative than traditional fossil fuels, is sourced from plant oils, waste cooking oils and animal fats, and leaves a lower carbon footprint.
