Federal government invests $2M in opening of Thunder Bay TMP-Bio plant

The government of Canada today announced $2 million for FPInnovations at the opening of its thermo-mechanical-pulp bio-refinery (TMP-Bio) plant in Thunder Bay, Ont.

According to a government news release, the government had previously announced $5.8 million in funding for the pilot facility to accelerate the development, production and commercialization of green bio-chemicals derived from sustainably sourced wood.

The additional $2 million – provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Clean Growth Program – will support the development of the process, which involves converting wood sugars to biomaterials.
