Fort Nelson First Nation supports pellet plant project in spite of critical report

A proposal to build British Columbia’s largest pellet plant has been criticized by a Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives report, but is getting full support by the Fort Nelson First Nation and Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.

Although most wood pellets are made from forest waste products, Peak Renewables will be logging whole trees for overseas shipments of pellets as it doesn’t have access to byproducts.

The critical report claims the plan won’t do enough to support Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
