Futurewood gets SFI certification for biomass
Futurewood Corp, along with Johnson Timber Corp, Flambeau River Papers, and Flambeau River Biofuels, are now SFI chain-of-custody certified for the sourcing of biomass fibre.

Feb. 9, 2010,
Hayward, WI – After a third-party audit by QMI-SAI Global, Futurewood Corp,
Johnson Timber Corp, Flambeau River Papers, and Flambeau River Biofuels are SFI
chain-of-custody certified for the sourcing of biomass fibre. Futurewood Corp
supplies approximately 170,000 tons of biomass to Johnson Timber Corp, Flambeau
River Papers, and Flambeau River Biofuels for use in pellet making and steam
and electricity generation.

“Futurewood’s
biomass program, along with new pellet technology from Johnson Timber and our
energy efficiency programs have allowed Flambeau River Papers to become
independent of coal,” says Randy Stoeckel, general manager of Flambeau River
Papers. “SFI chain-of-custody certification adds even more benefits by
supporting responsible forest management, which will benefit future
generations.”

Through SFI
chain-of-custody certification, companies must have a tracking system in place
so they can tell customers the amount of certified, uncertified, and recycled
content in the forest products they buy, use, or sell.
