Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has received $835,000 from Ottawa’s Greening Government Fund (GGF) to install a new pellet heating system at the Normandin Research Farm in Quebec.

The money will be used to replace the current oil-based heating system in the farm’s main building with a pellet biomass heating system to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, AAFC said in a press release.

AAFC is also receiving $1 million to replace system and controls at the Sherbrooke Research and Development Centre’s swine barn with heat recovery fans capable of higher efficiency, it said.

Those two announcements were made as part of moves by the federal government to strengthen and support the pork industry with funding of up to $10.6 million under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.
