Feb. 7, 2017 - The Moose Cree First Nation in northern Ontario is conducting a feasibility study to determine the viability of constructing or purchasing a facility to make wood pellets.
“Members of the department were sitting around and identifying some issues that we have in the community, and one of the issues we talked about was the high cost of heating in the winter time,” Bartholemew Smallboy, Business Development Officer for the first nation, told Timmins Press.
An ideal buyer for the wood pellets would be the nearby Town of Cochrane where officials are looking to restart a currently idled cogen facility.
The deadline for proposals from potential industry partners is Feb. 17.
