
Opinion: Invest $1 billion in zero-emission buildings instead of electric buses

Investing in electric city buses is a good way to help achieve zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, but a better plan – and in the long run, cheaper – is to convert buildings to zero GHG emissions, says an an architect and president of Ottawa-based Architects DCA.
The City of Ottawa is looking at spending $1 billion on a fleet of municipal transit buses, but Toon Dreesen says if the same amount was spent modifying buildings, it would prove to be a smarter investment in the long term.
Buildings last longer than vehicles and don’t require significant re-investment into the future.
