Slash burning ignites debate in B.C.

Murray says this would grow B.C.’s pellet industry while helping the province cut its greenhouse gas emissions.

The Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations sees untapped potential in slash too. Last September, it launched a Fibre Action Plan that lets operators negotiate with harvesters if they can prove demand for the slash.

But according to Murray, those negotiations are ineffective because all the power lies with the harvesters.
