Ban short flights, encourage train travel, Greenpeace suggests to European Union

Greenpeace wants the European Union to ban shorter flights and promote train travel instead as a means of tackling climate change.
The environmental group says about a third of the continent’s shorter air routes can instead be accommodated by rail travel. The lobbying effort comes just before the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland.
Greenpeace says a reduction in air traffic is important for reducing carbon-dioxide emissions. On a per passenger and per kilometre basis, short haul air routes are worse for emissions.
