Mississippi approves environmental permit for Enviva pellet plant

Enviva’s plans to build a $140 million wood pellet plant in Lucedale, Miss., are moving ahead in light of news that state environmental regulators have approved the company’s air quality permit.

“We are pleased with today’s positive outcome and look forward to starting construction of our new wood pellet facility in Lucedale,” Yana Kravtsova, Enviva’s vice-president of environmental affairs, said in a statement.

The regulator’s decision is facing backlash from environmental groups, the Associated Press reports.
